Hunter William Roberts

Our little man Hunter William Roberts arrived into the world on Thursday 28th January 2010

Here's a little rundown of how it all happened! (I have printed this and put it in Hunter's memory book so it's just a copy and paste of that with the gorey bits taken out)

It was Summer’s second week at daycare so I decided to have a pedicure as a bit of a treat. When we first got there I had a couple of pains and said to my friend that I had a bit of a tummy ache. During the pedicure the lady said there is a spot in your ankle that she could massage and is supposed to bring on labour so I asked her to massage it. After the pedicure we went and had coffee and did a bit of shopping during this time I had a few niggly pains but didn’t really think anything of them and they weren’t painful.

I picked Shaun up from his course he was doing for work around 4 and then we went to pick Summer up from daycare around 4.30pm during this time I had a few more pains but again didn’t think it was anything as they weren’t very painful. Shaun asked me to hold off one more day as it was a two day course he was supposed to be doing! I just laughed and told him I didn't think it would happen that night!

We were going out for tea that night with friends when we were getting ready around 5pm I said to Shaun that the pains were getting worse he asked me if I thought I would still be ok to go out for tea I assured him I was fine and if it was labour it would be hours yet! By 6pm I realised that I was in labour and the contractions were coming pretty fast only a few minutes apart and I didn’t think I could go out for tea and sit at the table while having contractions so we rang our friends to let them know and they came and got Summer and took her for tea. When they left I said to Shaun that I wanted to have a shower he talked me out of it and suggested we go to the hospital I wasn't keen as i thought they would send me home but agreed to go as i thought i would be able to have a bath there (no bath at the caravan park and I loved the bath when i had Summer) and if they tried to get me to leave i'd just cry or something!!

Shaun was trying to take my mind off the contractions as they were coming really quickly and really full on! first he asked me when the rent was due to be paid and then as we got to McDonalds he asked me if he could detour for a couple of cheeseburgers as he was starving! In a few unsavoury words I told him there was no way we were stopping for cheeseburgers!

The hospital is about a ten-fifteen minute trip and I had three or so contractions in the car, then another in the hospital car park and then another in the hospital hallway. By the time we got to labour ward I was in a lot of pain they were surprised to see me as I’d just rung about an hour before and said they weren’t too bad

I was in heaps of pain by now and with every contraction my head started spinning and I had pins and needles in my arms and face. I freaked out a bit but the midwife just told me it was because the contractions were so intense and coming so fast it was my bodies way of dealing with the pain. I didn’t think I could handle the pain anymore as I thought I had ages to go so I asked for something they gave me some gas two puffs and it made me feel sick so I threw that she checked me and said my membranes were bulging and I was about 5cm dilated. I nearly cried I thought I had ages to go and didn’t think I could handle it for much longer but I didn’t really want drugs because I hadn’t with Summer so I knew I could do it drug free.

I did freak out a little and was saying to Shaun what’s happening I can’t handle this but he was fantastic reassuring me I could and rubbing my back etc. I told the MW I wanted a shower or a bath. I got into the shower and was leaning over hanging onto the rail when I felt I needed to push so I told the midwife I needed to push Shaun freaked out a bit and said you can’t push in the shower and tried to get me to get onto the bed but I couldn’t move the midwife told my him to get down and Shaun caught him as he came out. When he was out I looked down and all I could see was a penis! and I said OMG it’s a boy OMG a boy (i really thought i was having another girl) and started crying then Shaun cried to, Shaun cut the cord after that he got me back to the bed.

I started shaking a after and I couldn't pick him up so shaun had to but they said that was just my body going into a bit of shock because it all happened so quickly.

So it was all very fast I asked to see my birth notes the next day so i could see just how fast things happened once we got to the hospital.

Regular contractions started around 5-6pm we arrived at the hospital at 7.30pm, waters broke at 7.40pm and Hunter William was born at 7.50pm! (QLD time)

7lb 15oz and 53cms

Afterwards talking with the midwife she said it was lucky we didn't stop for Mc Donalds or he would have been born in the drive thru or the hospital car park! So I was very happy that Shaun talked me out of having a shower at the van park as more than likely that’s where he would have been born!

They told me if I have another I would need to go to the hospital as soon as I felt my contractions starting as next time it could be even quicker!

So that's how it all happened at five weeks old he's pretty much a perfect baby sleeps and eats! we thought Summer was a good baby but he is even better than she was so those who said you get one good one and one bad one not true for us lol!

Here's some pics of our little man!

Update!

whoops has been ages since i updated this! but I have a good excuse i had a baby the day after I updated last time so that's my excuse!

We have moved into a little bungalow and when I say little I mean LITTLE it's very small but it's bigger than the van and we have a bathroom and is ok now while Hunter is so little and with Shaun away all week it's easier to keep clean!! It's in a suburb called Bucasia (in Mackay) and it's an old resort so we have about 50 other little bungalows around us and we have a pool, a gym which i haven't got to use yet and a tennis court we have had a couple of Sunday games of tennis with some friends (well not me I watched) and now Shaun has bought a racket I think he thinks he's going to be some kind of tennis pro!! it's quite a nice spot right on the beach and has a little playground to which Summer likes and our unit backs right onto the playground and the tennis court and the gym so we are in a good spot! it's also good we just pay rent we don't pay power etc so that makes it even better.

It has a couple of things that annoy me like having to park out in the carpark and then lug two kids in and groceries etc which hasn't been good with the rain but i'm getting used to it now. I have a couple of pics which I will post.

A general update

It's been ages since I updated so I am sure I will miss something!

Well heaps has been happening Shaun has started a new job which he seems to like he is contracting now so the money is really good which will be nice for us to save as much as we can so we can keep on our trip :)

Summer has started day care she goes twice a week this is her second week! she loves it of course and only on her first day did she cry for her mummy! as we all know she's such as social little butterfly and of course the carers there love her cause she turns her charm on them :) last week she went Thursday and Friday and then spent most of Saturday and Sunday saying she wanted to go to school!! We originally only had her booked in for one day but the director talked us into two days as she thought summer would benefit more with two days than one so we put her in for two and so far so good! I think it will be really good for her to have some time away from me and also for me to have a break and spend some one on one time with the new baby when it arrives.

On summers second day of care Shaun and I had the day to ourselves and went to the cinema and then down to the Marina and had a drink it was lovely and the first time we have had anytime on our own since we left Tassie

The new baby is due and we thought things were happening last week but all stopped and we are still waiting! the first due date they gave me is today (27th Jan) but the date they are going by is the 7th Feb so still another week and a bit away! although I do feel this baby will be here by then but who knows I could be wrong!! I am going well but ready for this baby to come the heat kills me most days and i try to spend as much time in the air con as possible and Summer and I swim pretty much every day which is always nice. I think it's the humidity that's the killer the temps are usually mid 30's but it's so sticky and muggy it's awful such a different heat to home. This pregnancy has been so different to Summer with Summer I had lots of fluid and swelling and I have had none this time. Last time I couldn't even get my rings on at 20 weeks and this time I am still wearing them now you would think I would have swelling in the heat but luckily i have had none! I have also been craving fruit! I can't get enough of the fruit up here's it's just beautiful cherries have been my vice and I am buying a bag every second day! I have also been craving rasberries but you can't get them up here! although I did see a tiny punnet in the supermarket last week but they were $8 i think for a tiny punnet so i had to resort to frozen ones! we really missed having rasberries over christmas..

I am really not sure what we are having this time i have thought girl for ages but everyone keeps telling me a boy! even strangers in the supermarket and this pregnancy is totally different so we will see. I am carrying different to - looking back on the photos from when I was pregnant with Summer I look heaps better this time!!

We have rented a unit (we move in next week) it's at a resort here that has closed down and the units have been sold off. It has a pool, gym and is right on the beach it's furnished and is just a small one which will be big enough for the four of us for three months while we decide what to do i.e. settle here for a bit or keep going on our trip we really want to keep going and hopefully we will it will just depend how this baby is! if it's as good as Summer then we will definately keep going we know it can be done we met some people who are doing it so there's no reason why we can't do it to! I do have days where I want to come home but I know if we were to come home now we would regret it as we will never go again so at this stage we won't be coming home. The only downside is that it's a bit further out than we wanted

My mum and dad arrive on the 3rd February and we can't wait to see them! hopefully the baby will be here by then...

Lots of love to everyone at home hope that you are all well we will let you all know when this baby decides to make it's appearance...

Townsville

We headed to Townsville just after Christmas for a few days. We loved townsville and I would have much preferred to settle there for a period of time than Mackay but we have friends here so that makes it better :)

We weren't going to take the van but decided to and we stayed at a caravan park called Rowes Bay which was just around from the strand and straight across the road from the beach
We only had a few days so we didn't get to do half the things that we wanted but will definately go back again soon and hopefully have a week or more up there.

We loved the strand which is right along the waterfront and has a water park, play ground, basketball court, a rock pool which you can swim in has the water pumped in from the beach Cold Rock Ice Cream haha!! and various other things it was just beautiful and everytime we went past so many people playing, swimming, having bbq's etc we loved it - we both said that something like that would be perfect along victoria parade in Devonport but of course that would never happen!!

One night we went past at around 8pm and no lie we think there would have been a couple of hundred people along there having bbq's, walking, running etc was really lovely

Summer loved the water park, we also went swimming at the rock pool which is man made and has the water pumped in straight from the beach minus the sand, seaweed and stingers. I don't really like swimming in the bach but did enjoy the rock pool

We had planned on going to the billabong sanctuary which has crocodiles etc on the way home which is a little bit out of townsville but it started raining on the night before we left and it did not stop all night and the next morning so it was just to wet so we missed out on that which was very disappointing but we will definately do it next time.

We also didn't get time to do the aquariam there either so lots of things to do but we just ran out of time. They also have better shopping up there! The weather there is a bit hotter than here but I think there is more to do up there than here.

Shaun ran into someone he knew!! of all places he's in a local milkbar and sees a bloke he knows who used to live in Devonport! they live just around from where we were staying! such a small
world we knew they lived there but never imagined running into them!

On our last night we went out for a meal and decided to go to a steak house in town - it was really lovely fairly fancy and was expensive of course we didn't look at the menu before we went in! but it was over $35 for a steak! Shaun had the steak and of course said the steak was crap! We have not had decent steak since we left Tassie it's always tough and dry! you should see the cows up here! they make me laugh everytime we see some they are skinny things with a big hump on their backs no wonder it tastes like crap! definately not like the steak we have back home!

here's a few pics from Townsville
